Maureen paints deeply textured fantasy abstracts in acrylic on canvas and will also be showing her ‘Show Girl’ images as well as some of her black and white optical illusions from her ‘Jazz’ series.
She said that she has always loved painting and find acrylic provides the texture and clarity of colour which suits her style. She believes there is an image in each canvas, which needs to be released, sometimes with the first covering or maybe the fifth but she has absolute faith that it will emerge.
‘My work is about beautiful colour in which you can loose yourself and go away feeling better. I am influenced by the wonders of the natural world the planets and the vastness of the universe with a little sparkle to brighten the day.’
Maureen also has a mischievous side to her personality having fun with saucy figures and movement through illusions which flows from her fascination with the works of Escher and Dali.
She has also written an illustrated book of ‘scary stories’ called ‘13 tales from the Pen of Maureen Taylor’ as she believes that grown up books should have pictures too. She is now working on a novel which she says has a very adult theme.
Here is a woman who clearly loves her work and as she says:-
’I have been given a gift and I believe everyone should use their talent and follow their dreams.
Maureen will also be giving a ‘ArtTalk’ about her work on 5th April at 7pm in Gallery150
