Joy Hayward and Sonya Bond
Inconspicuous Treasures – Landscapes in Shells and Dragonfly Wings

‘The main influences and concerns in our work is the environment, the world that surrounds us and our own habitat. Throughout both of our lives we have always had an interest in the natural environment – wildlife, natural forms, changes in nature and evolution. This is reflected in our work.’

Inconspicuous Treasures explores the hidden environments in natural forms.Hayward_Bond

Through the images they create new viewpoints of natural objects or formations and discover the beauty that these micro environments create. The work explores natural forms and how they sometimes create a landscape or seascape. Experimenting with different viewpoints and how the beauty of micro environments can be overlooked.’

‘The main inspiration of our work comes from the dragonfly wing, shells and other found objects such as gemstones. The dragonfly wing magnified transforms into a jewelled filled landscape. Exploring the aerodynamic quality of the stained glass patterned wing. The shell form and pattern on the shells represents a mystical world. The shell magnified gives way to valleys of glowing textured images that to the eye is invisible.’
