John Hunt: Recent Paintings

The paintings and drawings in the exhibition were almost all completed during the last five years and have not previously been on public display.
I studied painting and drawing at the College of Art and Crafts in Birmingham during the period 1958 to 1964 and obtained the National Diploma in Painting and an Art Teaching Diploma.

Upon leaving the College I worked in Leamington and Warwick at the Oken, Myton and Aylesford schools before becoming a commercial artist. This occupation enabled me to continue to create my own work in divergent materials and a many different techniques. I exhibited this work in all sorts of galleries and sites mostly in the West Midlands.

I returned to part-time teaching in 1994 and ended my career at the Henley in Arden High School by teaching Art, Technology and Health and Social Care, all to G.C.S.E.

The work in this exhibition is built around the experiences of the objects and the images that I find interesting and is my attempt to make sense of them in terms of painting. To this end I make use of some of the concepts developed by the painters and sculptors of the last century who developed and extended the means by which we can make sense of our visual world.
